In just under 8 years, Kralk Audio has gone from being a newcomer on the market to a recognised high-quality brand of loudspeakers for “people in the know”.
Founder Alan Clark’s nonapologetic methodology and attention to detail have won him an army of fans. His tiny workshop has produced more than 3,000 pairs of speakers, which have been sold not just in the United Kingdom, but worldwide.
As with any successful growing business, the Kralk Audio model now requires a step-change in scale and capabilities.
Kralk Audio is now Kralk Audio Limited and part of the ManorDrive group of companies; same ethos, more resources. Staying true to the spirit in which Alan makes his products, Kralk Audio Ltd. does not aspire to become a mainstream manufacturer; it will always be about quality loudspeakers.
In a move to support growth, a planned £100k investment will see the garage workshop in Wakefield move most of its activities to Hull, where a new manufacturing unit will be kitted out to the highest specifications. New tools – such as a CNC router – will help increase throughput, improve manufacturing precision, greatly expand the production capabilities and ensure the superior quality of the finished products. The assembly and custom finishes will continue to be handmade, true to tradition.
Alan will continue to impose his uncompromising standards in the role of Technical & Quality Director of Kralk Audio Ltd. He will be responsible for training new staff and guaranteeing that the legendary Kralk Audio quality will rise to become an industry benchmark. He will continue to manually assemble the crossover networks in Wakefield, using the same quality components, still hand-winding coils to exact values. Highly customised loudspeakers will still be his exclusive purview, as will the development of new models.
Kralk Audio Ltd. is already hard at work on the long-awaited launch of the new 30 Series, a return to the higher end of the market. Also, engineering of the TDB Mk II range has started; it will bring an updated look, new drivers and a step-up in sound quality. It will, however, remain true to the TDB philosophy: no unnecessary frills, accessible prices and a myriad of customisation opportunities.
Nicolas Will, in his newly-appointed role of Commercial Director, is excited to join the team and steer Kralk Audio Ltd. on this new path. He brings more than 20 years of expertise in business, engineering and marketing management to the company. Nicolas said:
“As the owner of Kralk Audio loudspeakers even before joining the team, I recognised their careful craftsmanship and high-quality sound. I am privileged, I now am in a position where I can strongly contribute to the legacy that Alan has created”
